Eat Defeat

Ro Jista

Ro Jista was born and bred in South London. Ro began writing poetry and songs at the age of 10 and a decade on it can be seen that he has constantly developed his talents during that time. Ro first picked up a microphone in his early teens, as a garage mc. This was a platform to have his voice heard amongst his peers but his other musical influences were too strong for this to continue being the way to go. Amongst his fellow emcees back in London, Ro realised that he had a more to spit than garage would allow as a genre. So he turned to his musical loves, hip hop. .

Ro’s musical influences come from all angles and from an early age his parents played a big part. His father introduced him to music by bands like the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Who and other such bands. On the other hand, his mother showed him the likes of Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, the Commodores, Barry White, Jackie Wilson and various other Motown and soul acts. Growing up in South London it was hard for Ro to not be influenced by Reggae, Hip Hop and Jungle and Ro welcomed all of these styles. The much varied influence that he has received throughout his development in life and as an MC, certainly rubs off on the style that he puts out when he steps on stage. Family tragedy brought about Ro’s move to Liverpool at 16, in 2001. This helped Ro to develop his music as a hip hop artist, he began penning verses and started rapping at various open mic jams in Liverpool. After doing so at Sunday Service, he met and teamed up with Sketchy Bwoy, Benny Diction and Oscillate and began performing at various events in Liverpool. Ro now raps, sings and produces his own music, with an EP and other projects in the pipeline. In 2005, Ro formed a collective with Benny Diction, Oscillate and Louis Cypher and together are known as The Punning Clan. Ro Jista is still performing all over Liverpool to follow on from gigs and shows that he’s already done and has mixtapes, and albums in production with The Punning Clan and as a solo artist. Ro features on the classic posse cut 'rewriting the rulebook' and the super addictive 'BettergoGetterz' with Midnyte, 1st Blood and Liam Bahinyon Bailey all taken off BloodLeech 'Eat Defeat'!
